PREVIOUS SPEAKERS/INSTRUCTORS

The following speakers presented programs and facilitated discussions at PG Retreat 2007. See also 2007 Presentations & Discussions and Consultations.

Linda Silverman, Ph.D., is Director of the Gifted Development Center, in Denver, Colorado. A passionate advocate for both gifted and learning disabled children, Linda affirms the positive aspects of thinking and feeling differently. She is the author of Upside-Down Brilliance: The Visual-Spatial Learner and other books. She has also written numerous articles and delivered hundreds of lectures throughout the world. Thousands of children from around the world have been tested at the Gifted Development Center. Over many years of working with gifted and 2E children, Linda has made a profound difference in the lives of children, parents, and educators.

Michele Kane, Ed.D. has been involved in gifted education for over twenty years. Currently she is the Gifted Education Program Coordinator for the Antioch #34 school district in Illinois. She is a member of the adjunct faculty at Northeastern Illinois University in the Master of Arts in Gifted Education program, where she will begin a position as an assistant professor in the Gifted Education department in the fall. She is a current board member of the Illinois Association for Gifted Children and is the past co-chair of the Global Awareness division of NAGC. Michele is a gifted education consultant who has a keen interest in the social-emotional needs of gifted people as well as services that enhance the whole child. Along with her husband Dan, she is the parent of six gifted adult children.

Annette Sheely is the school counselor at the Rocky Mountain School for the Gifted and Creative in Boulder, Colorado. With a deep understanding of the social and emotional issues common among gifted people, she helps students and faculty when communication or relationship difficulties interfere with a student's education. Having written several articles for journals and newsletters in the field of giftedness, Annette has spoken at numerous national and local conferences about the social and emotional issues faced by gifted families and gifted girls. Annette earned her M.A. in Clinical Psychology (with an emphasis in marriage and family counseling) from Pepperdine University.

 

Carolyn K. is the Webmaster of Hoagies' Gifted Education Page and Hoagies' Kids and Teens Page.

She writes for The SENG Update, Gifted Education Communicator, and for Our Gifted Children. But first and foremost, she is the parent of two profoundly gifted girls, her pride and joy, and her guiding force in her gifted education research and writing.
